How large should your territory be?

In dense metro areas, one ZIP code may be enough to build a thriving local publishing business.

But in smaller towns and rural areas, you’ll likely need several ZIP codes in your licensed territory to have enough population to turn your license into a full-time income opportunity.

It’s also important that your territory includes enough people who may be interested in becoming Associate Publishers and creating content for one of the 100+ niche Opedia-branded sites.

From our experience, if you’re planning to work solo — visiting local advertisers in person — an ideal population range is 35,000 to 60,000 within a reasonable driving distance.

If you’re aiming to build a larger operation with a multi-person sales team, then a territory of 100,000+ population may be a better fit.
